Tune down a whole step - Andy - 18:42 12-11-05

Hey guys

I recently put a set of 10s on my ESP and tuned down a whole step and I
was wondering what bands tune down a whole step so I can check them out
and perhaps play along.

Thankyou!!

Andy.

Corrosion Of Conformity tune to D. System Of A Down tune to drop C
(tune to D and then drop your low D to C). Black Sabbath tune to D on
Born Again.

Slayer did a half-step in the old days, i.e. Reign in Blood. And System
does drop Db in otherwise half-step tuning now. Just an FYI...

Why would you want to tune to D G C F A D? If you're afraid of too
much tension on your guitar then dont be. 10's shouldnt hurt it and if
they do then you havent lost anything. You're only prolonging it's and
your agony.
Make it D A D F# A D and you'll have open D and can play some slide on
er.

Well, Keith, I have a guitar tuned standard, a guitar tuned to Eb and
this guy's now tuned down a step. I put the 10's there because with
9's down a step you have very little tension.

Thanks for all the help guys.

Andy.

Re: Tune down a whole step - Rookie - 09:48 13-11-05

Maybe he wants the fatter sound but not the added tension? I have also
been tempted to do that in the past, but then I decided to stick to 9s,
tuned down a half or a full step. I guess I would have to tune 10s two
full steps down :)

ummm. standard down 1 step is _way_ heavy. there should be
no other reason! ] = ) <-- devil horns!

(it's not as heavy as playing an eight-string gutiar a la Meshuggah,
but
we can't all be swedish either)

GnR goes half-step, I thought that was more the norm for tuned-down bands.
