What's this Jackson worth?
It seems very well built; has an unbelievably thin neck and it's pretty
light, very sonical response from woods that seem nice.
Has a splitter(?) switch and only one volume, 2 singles and a humb, all
labeled Jackson. As you see, looks like a tele/strat hybrid.
Finish is weird 'silver' spray in the lacquer, kinda purplish, natural neck,
very ornamental tortoiseshell pickguard.
I found this in a back room of a local music store where it's been lying for
ages, lotsa dust on it..all the setup is haywire naturally, but seems like
the neck is straight, only much too much relief right now. One bad
ding/crack in the bottom of the guitar.
It says 'STD something, Jackson Professional.
I could get it for like $300, worth it? It DOES seem like an excellent
instrument IF I the adjustments are possible i.e. the truss rod is OK...even
if it had been standing covered with dust for years it was even pretty much
in tune!
Any comments/does anyone know the model?
Cheers,
Dee

I'm not sure if it's exactly the same model, but check out:

The reviews are mostly good. Prices paid range from $175 to $550. You
may be able to use this to talk the price down a little.

Read the reviews, bought it!
Turns out it wasn't a store guitar, but someone had left it there to sell
years ago. Thus they wouldn't let me take it home to test or reduce the
price, but I got tools and a tuner plus some new strings and worked on it
for an hour or so, and it sure is good.
Looks may be bad in contemporary style, but it sure is the easiest-playing
guitar I've ever played. I've had a Charvel, and ESP and I've tried out lots
of guitars, but this one sure has a slim neck if any guitar ever had. And
still it's totally straight even after 15 years and years of neglegt. Damn
easy to go up and down the neck/hammer-on, hardly needs to be touched and a
sound jumps out.
So I shelled out the 290 they wanted, and I'm happy. To my surprise it has
LOADS of sustain I didn't expect from a Floyd-equipped guitar; maybe it's
the mikes, but compared to my SD-equipped Explorer and Strat this thing
sustains forever.
The sound is a little mid-scooped (it figures) but that also makes it really
punch the chords while still keeping a really nice top end on power chords.
Not the best for mid-rich AC/DC sounds, perhaps, but other than that, the
axe really has very versatile sounds indeed, even without a tone knob.
