One of the first Hamer Sunbursts? - Five Sharp - 11:03 16-11-05

A few years ago I stumbled upon a used Hamer Sunburst in a local guitar
store. It was weird but it had NO serial number. The sales guy told me it
was a1977 one. I picked it up and it was love at first sight. Later I found
out this:
"The first four prototype Sunbursts were built in time to be shown at the
June 1977 NAMM Show and carried no serial number. One of them can be seen in
Rick Nielson's book "Guitars of the Stars". The first "production" Sunburst
(7 0001) has recently been on show at the Smithsonian (see the link to Jol
Dantzig's Page)."
According to the Hamer conaisseurs of the Hamer Fanclub my Hamer has all the
signs of a VERY early one (unbound neck end, block inlays, slightly larger
headstock, bridge etc.) and advised me to check the pot codes inside the
guitar. I did that and found out the pots are dated April 1977, so a date
prior to the NAMM show.
Might I have one of the 4 NAMM show prototypes? Or simply one of the first?
Why is there no serial number?

Sounds like you've got yourself a hot guitar there. Hot as in stolen.
See, my Uncle had his car stolen once and the fist thing those heinous
scallawags did was to file the serial number off so it (in theory)
couldn't be traced back to him.
Indeed, I'd suggest turning it over to the local constable and let them
sort it all out.

That's definitely one of the 'good' Hamers..... I loved those blocky
bridges for some reason...
I'm pretty sure Neilson will be ringing you up soon :)

call Hamer and talk to Jol Dantzig. (no relation to Glenn Danzig)
He might be pretty helpful since he's one of the original Hamer
dudes.
