Vintage Yamaha value - Hank L - 13:23 16-11-05

I have a Yamaha SSC 500. I don't know the year but it is probably from the
70's or 80's. A buddy of mine wants to learn to play. I told him I would
sell this one to him.
It has been upgraded with a BassAss bridge and Bill Lawrence p/u's. It is
in primo shape almost like new really. I bought it because I was in the
prime of my GAS mode days. It has sat in my closet for about 15 years.
I can't find any info on the net about.
My question is, about how much would this be worth? I'm not out to make a
killing on my friend but I don't want to give it away either. Has it
acquired any vintage value? I have other guitars I can sell him. I like this
guitar as a keep sake but I don't play it so it is not a big deal to let it
go.
Thanks
Hank.

Never mind, I found one when I had time to spend searching. I see one like
mine and the same shape for $499. That's about 3 times what I paid for it
but not enough to sweat over if I can turn a friend on to the guitar.

Hmm, he's a friend, and the guitar has been sitting in your closet for 15
years unplayed.
Well, you do the math.
If it were my friend, the guitar would be at his place already, for free or
at least as a loaner until he decided whether he wanted to keep going at
it.

Jeez, give me a break Mo, he just asked me this morning about being
interested in guitar, in fact about 20 minutes before I posted my question,
while on my lunch break. And to be honest, he is actually a co-worker, not
necessarily a guy I hang out with. I've never been to his house or anything
but we've worked together for a long time so I consider him a friend. And
I'll admit I'm a little gun shy about just handing over expensive equipment.
I can't list how many things I've loaned to "Friends" over the years that
came back in pieces or not at all.
I only asked the question in case this model had gained considerable value
over time so I could price it accordingly, or offer him a different guitar
in his price range.

Okay, okay, you didn't explain all that, did you? ;-D
When I call someone a buddy, it's because he is.
And when I loan things, I don't expect to ever see them again (mostly
because I forget all about them...but it gives me the right to reclaim them
when I do).
But your co-worker is probably better served picking up one of those
starter packs in the stores, he'll have everything he needs at a low price.
