Zoom G2 - Rookie - 21:16 16-11-05

Reading all the raving reviews about the G2 has got me wondering whether I
should replace my V-Amp2 or not. Anyone who has tried both?

Yup and I had to get rid of the Behringer because of the switch latency. I
just bought the Zoom G2 2 days ago so real reviews are still pending but my
initial feelings are that it's a better unit than the V-AmpII
So far I love the gains the Zoom has and the chorus is very nice. Tell ya
what you won't be wasting 99.00 but make sure "YOU" like it before you buy
of course.

I don't mind the switching latency, but I wouldn't mind some better sounds
:)
I am looking for a variety of tones, mostly semi-clean and classic blues
and hard rock ones.

Believe the reviews. I have had the V-Amp2. I had the G2 for about six weeks
and just exchanged it for the new G2.1u with the pedal built in. It is
absolutely quiet and the tones are outstanding once they are tweaked for
your taste/rig. I have gigged it every Sunday with my church band and have
received a number of complements, especially on the sound of the chorus.
BTW, the G2.1u has a USB output and free recording software that work
perfectly. Not a Zoom rep, just a player. Buy it...

in the Zoom GFX-8, in order to use the expression pedal as a wah-wah,
you had to select a patch that specified the pedal to be used as a
wah. In other words, you couldnt simply step on the pedal at any given
time and get a wah effect, the patch had to be set up in advance. So,
it was a two step operation to turn on the wah 1) select patch with
wah 2) start wah-ing with pedal
is it the same way with the G2.1u ??

Hi Rookie - I have the G2 and recently sold a V-amp2. I liked the v-amp
thru the headphones, but for me, when I tried using it as effects in
front of a tube amp, the v-amp sucked. I never got tones I liked. It
was hard to use jamming with the extra foot pedal unit. The G2 is great
- much better sounds, all-in-one unit, runs on 2 AA batteries which is
great for a portable jamming unit.

Yup I gotta say now after having this thing a few days and having some
quality time with it that this thing is incredible. No matter what pickups I
use on my axes I can get tremendous sounds from this thing. Just gotta
remember the EEQ setting with an amp because if you leave it set for CB (Cab
simulation) it sounds bad. However if you make sure it's set to EQ (Non
simulation) it is awesome. On the flip side when you hook it into the
computer the simulations are awesome! I can't stop playing it!
I can get the sweetest twangiest clean to the raunchiest dirt from this
thing and everything in between. I now have it programmed for my entire set
list and everything is nice and neat. I have played many of the amps this
thing claims to simulate and some are not so accurate but most are spot on
and not only sound like the amps but are as responsive to end user activity.
Having played guitar now for over 20 years and having an OPEN MIND I can say
it's a blessing that I don't have to spend a ton of cash for an old Fender
or Marshall to get the sounds. Although I'm not crazy about the "Marshall
Sound" some of my set requires it.
Zoom much improved the Chorus, Flanger, Compressor and Reverbs since the 606
and probably more that I haven't discovered yet. The Zoom G2 smokes the Rp
series by Digitech (No comparison actually) and to talk about bang for the
buck as being the best I've EVER seen is an understatement.
Final Analysis = WOW
