Traded Schecter S-1 for C-1 Elite - Larry - 13:58 22-11-05

As I wrote here a while ago, I'm getting back into this after several years.
Since the Carvin I ordered will take 7-9 weeks to be built, I needed
something to use in the mean time.

I didn't want to spend a ton as whatever I got would become my wall-hangin',
grab it when I have a minute guitar that would stay easily available.

So I went to Guitar Center and got a nice deal on a Shecter S-1. Basically
an SG copy. Got a very good deal on the Guitar, a VOX Pathfinder 15/r amp
(though my Carvin Belaire 212 has arrived now - the VOX will go in my
office), and case.

Very nice guitar. Finish immaculate, plays well (better than I'm capable of
playing it right now :))

I was very impressed with the quality of this $499 guitar (list $749, I got
it for $399 new).

The other day I was at the same Guitar Center to get some needed peripherals
(cables, strings, tuner, pick, etc....) and I was looking at the higher end
Shecters on the wall. Two caught my eye:

The Schecter C-1 Classic. Wow.

The Schecter C-1 Elite. Wow again.

The Classic has the benefit of having real Seymour Duncan JB and '59
pickups. The Elite has the Duncan Design 'copies' of these.

Unfortunately, the "Vine Of Life" fretboard inlay on the Classic just
doesn't do it for me. It confuses my eyes, if you can understand that :)

Being impressed with the Elite, I asked if I could trade the S-1 in and get
the Elite. No problem, as I was within my 30 days.

Traded in the S-1 and got the C-1 Elite. It's a MUCH nicer guitar,
especially from an asthetic standpoint. Quilted maple top, amber finish,
and some truly exquisite binding around the headstock, neck and body.

Got a very good deal too. $899 retail, $599 selling price, took it home for
$489.

The in-stock guitar has some belt-scratches on it from others trying it
(otherwise it's perfect), so this is just a loaner while they order me in
factory new one with a matching Shecter case.

I know not everyone loves Guitar Center, but I have to say they have been
pretty darned good to me.

The setup on this guitar is pretty much perfect. In all the reviews I've
read the C-1 Elite seems to come out of their shop in california set up the
best of all of them. Hard to understand why, but I'll take it.

I guess this is based on the PRS design, with the body shape and carved
maple top. I like it. I even like it better than the SG style. This is a
VERY comfortable guitar.

My Bass Player bough an Ultracure. And it is a nice guitar I am looking
at their models and I agree the floral inlays are a bit too much but the
guitars I have played are well made.

If guitar center has some go through all until one feels good. I prefer
the large bodies of the ultra and even if not a cure fan the ultracure
is a nice guitar. But the body may not be the norm, I like it but I do
realize all may not.
