Real nice, hypnotic mix in the verse, pretty aggressive bass compared to
other sounds.
It kind of keeps pumping hard when all the rest is a bit more
distant-sounding...so I mean it sounds it's not a tight 'package' in a way.
Well at least it's not this modern over-compressed stuff where everything is
stuffed in the same tube.

The chorus jumps out maybe even too much, and the vocals seem a little
harsh-sounding/thin in the chorus.
In the chorus also the rhythm guitar sounds a bit overprocessed.

All in all, it's rather nice but I'd take off some of the FX and give the
voxline in the chorus some of that punch the bass has.
Maybe just a matter of some multiband compression for the master.

Great groove to the song, very nice.

First, the kick drum has no punch, not enough bottom end on it. and it's
too "planky" sounding. Listen to the original, the bass drum is nice and fat
without a lot of "click" sound to it. You may want to take some bottom off
of the bass guitar as well, and add a bit of upper midrange to give it more
definition. The original, has the kick carrying most of the song's bottom
end, the bass guitar is nice and tight and well defined, but not a lot of
bottom on it. The toms could stand to be a bit louder too.
The performance is not bad, except for some rhythm guitar timing problems,
and the octave harmony in the bridge isn't very good. Both of those things
stand out because there isn't much else going on with them, and even minor
defects are pretty obvious.
It still needs some tweaking but it will be worth the effort to get it
right. :-)

S: The guitar solo sounds good, very good. What DAW software are you using
for the mixdown? Have you thought about trying the acoustic guitar? Do you
record any of your own material, perhaps instrumental guitar?

Check www.johnwinters.biz or www.myspace.com/johnwinters for some examples.

CW,

Thanks... The solo (and all of my guitar parts) were played on a Peavey
Destiny Custom into a Boss GT-6 with a tube stack patch. Recording
digitally, directly to PC using an M-Audio sound card and the digital
out on the GT-6. Using Adobe Audition for multi-track recording
software. More recording info can be found here:
http://steve-mann.com/p43/rl_info.html

I've got some guitar ditties (originals) that I slapped together here:
http://www.soundclick.com/rockermann They were all just rough thoughts
and possibilities. I'm concentrating my efforts now on the P-43 stuff.
We're getting ready to try our hands at some original tunes, so keep an
eye on the site if you like.

Thanks for your input!

Thanks. We're trying to tighten things up a bit, but I agree. It can get
to compressed where there's no separation. We're still 'beginners' at
this, so it's a long process.

You're right. The chorus, especially the first one is to loud when it
comes in. Charlie is doing some mixing right now and this is being
adjusted.

The guitar has a chorus on it and it does have points where it might be
overdone. I'm looking at options on this.

Thanks for your comments. They're greatly appreciated. Charlie and I
will be doing some tweaking and we'll repost.

Thanks again for your comments.

Charlie is tweaking the drum parts based on your comments. Early returns
are looking good.

Yeah, there's a timing problem on the guitar. It's that damn midi bass
line that doesn't 'feel' like I do. <G>

Octave harmony? The vocal part in the second verse? I attempted the low
part in kind of a speaking/scat type manner. I didn't really try to keep
it exactly in sync/harmony. But, I'll consider your suggestion and see
what it might sound like.

Exactly. This is a very cool song, one I've always liked. It could be a
nice project if we get the loose ends tied up.

Thanks for your comments, Porky. They are very much appreciated.
