Consider yourself lucky that you have that kind of service at your local
store...my local store is full of people who have no idea what they are
talking about and will always try to pull a fast one when you are getting
something serviced...

Ed Roman says that it makes no difference to him because he specializes in
things that GC doesn't carry. So why the rant?

I think it's important to remember that Guitar Center started off as a small
independant shop in Hollywood and grew to what it is today because of their
product offering, service, location, smart business decisions and some luck.

Tell me Ed Roman wouldn't trade places with the founder of Guitar Center in
a heartbeat. Wayne Mitchell had 8 stores when he left the company in '83.

Some of the owners and staff people of the small shops around here try to
feed you the same crap as some of the sales people at Guitar Center, they're
just a little more experienced at it. At least something seems to be
exciting and motivating the GC guys. Sometimes walking into a mom & pop
shop around here is like walking into a DMV facility.

Ed Roman is the sleaziest
low-life egomaniac in the
entire retail music
business, so whatever he
has to say carries zero
credibility.

I think her face is somewhat similar.

top this.. my local "mom and pop" (which is really three guys and a
store front...) has a better selection than the GC's do. OK so GC does
have more ****. **** being the operative term.

Re: you guys need to read this article - Mack - 13:52 04-12-05

Maybe the government should set up a guitar selling co-operative that
sells at high margins to maintain full employment for people who can't
otherwise add value to the economy. That would be a great idea. But
seriously, if local mom & pop stores want to compete, they have to
compete on service, not on price. I support my local mom&pop store
because they give good tech support and know what they're talking
about. They charge just a little bit more, but I still figure I come
out ahead because of the free set-ups, etc. If they didn't offer that,
I would run to GC in a heartbeat. I'm glad that GC exists, though,
because their presence keeps pricing at the local store honest! As for
Ed Roman, he should move to Myanmar where high margin artisans can
survive in a command economy.
