All I had to do was read the URL. Ed Roman is one of the shadiest SOBs in
the business. His "rants" are usually about people who refuse to do
business with him, or are unhappy with his work. Believe me, if he could cut
a deal to get his crappy guitars in GC, or franchise his store nationwide,
he'd be ALL about the chain store concept...

Intresting post.
If a mom and pops store is ran by industrious ,intellegent people then
a GC right next door isnt going to hurt them at all. Matter of fact it
will be the GC getting hurt because who would you rather deal with?
The inexperienced uncaring help at GC or a guy who knows his
shit, plans on being around tomorrow and wants all of your buisness.
If a mom and pops gets ran out of buisness by a GC then they're
incompetent and in the wrong buisness. If they're smart then they'll
open up right next door and nab the disgruntled people who are leaving
GC cussing. The small guitar shops in L.A. are so busy that their
luthiers are backed up for a year and they can afford to have more
employees than they need. If you've got to starve at first to keep
your store stocked correctly then starve. You'll soon be eating high
off of the hog and shitting in tall cotton.

I surfed in to this guy's site and just got hooked on reading his
logic. I was a regular customer at guitar center, but he
convinced me to order my latest purchase, a $1300 strat, from a

Reading the post titled "Guitar Center Report"

made me think of this.

Next you'll be paying 6 figures for swamp property.

You should read the Ed Roman Reports at Harmony Central.

I know a small store who prices their products exactly as Sam Ash, MF,
GC. They definitely moved their mrechandise.

Excellent post. There's a small store down the street who has Squier
Strats priced what GC has for a MIM Strat.

They're still in business.

In reality most music store's income does not rely heavily on
instrument purchases.

Re: you guys need to read this article - ~R - 17:40 04-12-05

that is very unfortunate.

I deal with Danny D's in League City, Tx. If Musicians Friend prices a
guitar at xxx dollars, they meet that price. On the tag, not after you
haggle. You get to play the axe before you buy. The employees all play,
and some are very, very good. Most are half my age. Nobody treats me
like their dad, or like I don't know what I'm talking about. They have
an amp tech who isn't learning on my equipment. The owner does beautiful
refrets, if you don't mind waiting your turn. Yes, they are selling the
Christmas Guitars, (same price as everyone else)but they are throwing in
a free setup. Try getting that at Wallymart or Sam's.
Seymour Duncan spent an evening there last August, talking to anyone
who showed up after the store closed. The place was packed with players.
You can buy Duncan pups at GC, but you never meet the owner of the
company there.

GC is 2, 3 miles down the road. Some young employees, but they can't
play worth squat. Don't know anything about their line except what the
manager tells them. Lots of LPs on the wall at list price. Don't ask
about minor differences on the reissues, you might embarass them.
Forget about getting your amp repaired at GC. Oh, and the employees
are just toooo cool for customers in their 50s.

The small stores that deliver the service when your axe or amp is 10,
20 years on, are the ones to buy from. GC is just there to sell you new
stuff.

you mean my Swamp Ash farm? It's nice, except for the mosquitos.
