Behringer Guitar Amp? - Steve - 00:29 05-12-05

I was at the local GC today, and they had a used Behringer 2 x 12 guitar
amp for $149.00 US$. It was in good cosmetic condition, but I didn't try
it out. Is this a decent amp (and is it worth the US$149?)
The also had a special on the new Behringers--the 2 x 10 was US152.00,
and the 2 x 12 was (I think) US$225.
How do they compare to the Line 6 Spider II series?

Line 6 are much better, but for the price Behringers are hard to beat. Amps
dont come much cheaper considering all the features they usually have.
Consider Behringer to be budget amps.

Haven't tried exactly that Behringer, but the ones I've tried have offered
amazingly good sounds for the money. They're cheap, so not to expect any
brilliant sounds, but they've certainly made me go wow, these days one can
get such decent sounds for so little money.
Having said that, Behringer reputation is cheap build on totally integrated
boards, which spells trouble in heavy use, and prone to small problems which
might escalate.

I had a GMX212. This amp rocks, i thought it sounded far better than the
spider. However the FX as great as they sound, there is not much control
over parameters. But it the sound of the amp is very real, IN the back is a
large heat sink. It uses a Analogue to create overdrive. The Line 6 sound
digital, this does not. IT was super super loud. Louder than anything i have
heard. Bloody massive in size and wait and seemed strong. The reverb was
great too. and delay.
It sounded like a marshal. I wanted a vox sound so i got a laney valve and
sold it. But if you want a harder sound this will do and its so cheap.
There are 3 amp modes on most of them
Clean = Fender, clean sound, but to quiet.
Drive = Marshall driven sound. And HOT which was hi gain, wasn't to happy
with that but Drive was really cool.
If you want a great amp, this is it. no kidding, just try it. It will kill
LINE 6 anyday for a real sound. But the spider is better at making lots of
sounds and different amps.
Behringer is more simple.

Is this for home practice or playing in a band?

Home practice, I guess you'd call it. I want something I can use to try
out & demo the guitars that I build. I have a Marshall VS65R that I use
for this, and I wanted somethig with effects as well. The 2 x 10 model
is the one I'm most interested in.
I have a Peavey Classic 30 that I use when I do play guitar at the
church, where I normally play bass.

Chris,
Maybe doesn't worship tube amps the way you do. Deal with it.
Steve,
Guncho (and others) will tell you that tubes are the only way to go. My
advice is to let your ears decide. Try the Behringer amp. If you like
it, buy it. I'm not a big fan of Behringer products, but it may be a
nice amp to mess around with at home. Who knows, you may like it.

I wasn't recommending he buy a tube amp??? I was recommending that
perhaps he doesn't need to spend money on another amp in general if he
already owns one.
Maybe he thinks you can't play a 30 watt amp at home?? I don't know.
That's why I was asking. In the hopes that I could save him some
money.
So sorry!

I bought a 30 watt GX110 for dirt cheap new. Sounds fine. I would hardly
claim its a 30 watt amp though. Has an entire host of good sounds, is
reasonably quiet, and has good dynamics. Great EQ. But its cheap. Cheap
plastic pot posts attached directly to circuit board. Cheap speakers. etc.,
so I would get the extended warrenty for whatever Behringer product you buy.
But they do sound nice, though their nothing you could ever gig with. Way
to cheap, much to delicate, cant handle the road at all. At least I cant
imagine it.
But certainly tons of fun good sounding effects to toy around with during
practice, which is what it sounds like you want. I would go for it. But
remember, these amps are budget amps, and are certainly not your tube amp.
