Squirer guitars - need advice.. - TexasFlood - 17:18 06-12-05

I am considering buying a Squirer "Fender Esprit", as I have allways liked
Robben Ford.
I can't afford buying "the real" Robben Ford signature Baker or Fender.
I have also considered buying af Epiphone Les Paul Standard.

The price of Epiphone is equal to the price of the used Squirer "Fender
Esprit"

The question is :

Whats the best choice soundwise between the Squirer "Fender Esprit" and the
Epiphone Les Paul Standard ?

regards

TF

That Squier looks pretty good. If its condition is mint, then why not?

I dont know what Robben Eord sounds like but from some experience I can
say that no amount of gear is gonna make you sound like him much less
play like him. Different people sound different on the same gear. Go
for the guitar you like best and sound like yourself. If it just so
happens that yourself sounds like Robben Ford then no matter what
you're playing through you'll sound like Robben Ford

The best choice is the one that you think sounds better. The Les Paul and
the Esprit have very different constructions, and so will not sound the
same.

One sucks really really bad, and the other one is totally sub par in
comparison with what it imitates.

Squier sucks. Imagine how non-seriously other musicians woudl take you
if you showed up for an audition with one...

Squier doesn't make cheapish strat clones only. Have you tried the more
expensive models?

Heh, you got that right. In fact, "show up" is ALL you'd do because
Guncho won't even listen to anyone play if they have a Squier. He
doesn't care if you are the next Robben Ford, he won't even listen to
you because that Squier name "proves" you don't take your music
seriously!

Unless, of course, you do take your music seriously and you happen to
find one of those Squiers out there that actually sound and play great.
In that case just flip Guncho the bird. His music sucks anyway. :)

I've seen quite a few high-quality Squier guitars. For a while, Squiers
could exceed the US Fender production in terms of quality.

Unless, of course, you could actually play the thing, in which case the only
thing that matters is that the gear doesn't break down.

On the other hand, if you show up at an audition with extremely expensive,
ultra-high quality gear, and can't play it, how seriously will you be taken
as a musician?

I bet if Joe Satriani showed up with an Ibanez RG series guitar or a cheap
affinity squirer, he would still sound like him and people would take him
very seriously.
